Makani Hoon, Ke Azad e Makaan Hoon - Kalam Allama Iqbal

Makani Hoon, Ke Azad e Makaan Hoon – Kalam Allama Iqbal

Makani Hoon,  Ke Azad e Makaan Hoon?
Jahaan Main Hoon, Ke Khudd Sara Jahan Hoon?

Woh Apni La Makaani Main Rahain Mast
Mujhe Itna Bata Dain Main Kahaan Hoon!

Am I bounded by Space, or I am Boundless?
Am I within the Universe, or entire Universe myself?

They remain ecstatic in their boundless and spaceless being
All I am asking is to tell me where exactly is my being?

Rubaiyat or poem based on two couplets remain the most beautiful form of verse. Popularised by Omar Khayyam, the Persian Sufi poet, Urdu has also seen such form of poetry by laurettes of Urdu poetry, Iqbal and Faiz. Above Rubayi is from Allama Iqbal Baal-e-Jibreel.

These verses became part of the beautiful composition Ramooz-e-Ishq by Abida Parveen, the legendary Sufi Music, courtesy of www.thesufi.com.
