Not hopeless, just pondering: Poem by Zainab Zaidi
Not hopeless, just pondering
the fleeting, transient life
that ends in two breaths
whispers of “why are we here?”
echoes of a restless heart
What was my heart made for?
a vessel for love, or so I thought
but if love be a sin, a forbidden lore
why was my heart crafted with such tender care?
I asked why was i made… oh! so fragile
and so fevered for love
Was i built for something deemed amiss?
love I thought, was innocent
a rebellious beat, a defiant wish
to feel… to love… to live… to risk
From soil to soil, same destined end
an exhausting journey, take me home
where my heart can rest and the questions fade
like fading footprints from the snow
like the last breath of dying breeze
take me home.
